Handbook / Fields

Fields

Every form field in the document, page by page.

This list is the hardest part of building a form to do without. Once a page has forty boxes, finding date_of_birth by looking at the page does not work. The boxes are all the same colour, and most of them are empty rectangles. The list gives them names and an order.

What it lists

Fields the document already has, and proposals. While a form is being built, those are the same job at different stages. A list that showed only the fields already there would miss the ones not yet placed.

A proposal is what the field tool drags out: a field drawn where one is wanted, not yet written into the page.

Proposals are kept out of the mark lists. They are not marks.

The kinds a field can be

Text Field, Text Area, Checkbox, Radio Button, Drop-down List, List Box, Boxed Characters, Date Field and Digital Signature.

Boxed Characters means a row of little boxes, one letter each, as forms use for a reference number.
